Director’s Notes

I met Pak Wayan on December 29, 2023, exactly two months before I launched this site and documentary. He was not only my instructor at the Gamelan 101 workshop organized by ARMA in Ubud, but also the driving force behind this documentary. All the interviews and events presented in the four verses wouldn’t have been possible if not for the kindness and generosity of Pak Wayan, his family and his students, which I’m forever grateful for.

This documentary will always hold a special place in my heart. It is the first ever documentary that I have worked on independently from scratch and, more importantly, there was so much about my Balinese friends’ passion and beliefs that I could relate to on a personal level despite our cultural differences. For someone that has just embarked on her exploratory journey, it is such a blessing to have met with all these people with big hearts ❤️🙏
